Almost 2!

I've said it before, and I'm sure I'll say it again...I can't believe how quickly time is passing. Abby and Emily are going to be TWO YEARS OLD in a little over a week. There have been times when life has passed painfully slowly: when the girls were in the NICU, or once they were home and I was up all night with them, or when I'm cleaning up what seem to be millions of bits of crushed cinnamon life from between the slats of the hard wood floors. Really though, when I think back two and a half years ago when kids weren't even part of our 5 year plan (that's not to say they weren't a surprise that we're unbelievably thankful for) it feels like that life was only yesterday.

As usual we've been on the go with all sorts of things lately. For fathers day I had the girls paint Byron and their Grandpa pictures on canvases, which they loved. When I recently realized that their bedroom was desperately in need of some decorations I decided we'd give the painting another shot. It was a HUGE hit. I bought a couple large canvases and set them up on the porch with one paint color at a time and let them go to town.

Of course even when things are going nice and smooth someone has to get into some sort of mischeif. Emily wanted to taste the sparkles which unsurprisingly don't taste very good.

After they were all clean they wanted to run around in diapers. Of course I think it's super funny to let them run around like that, so for them this was pretty much the day they've dreamed about for two years. Abby in a diaper and my sneakers.

We also recently decided to give Chuck E Cheese another shot about 10 months after our last visit. It was much more fun this time as they were able to run around and really enjoy themselves.

One of the “games” allowed you to call Chuck E Cheese. Abby was a huge fan. She kept saying “hi mouse. I Abby two.” When she says this she means “Hi mouse, I'm Abby and I'm two”. We've been trying two teach her that she's two (or about to be two) years old.

We've also tried to get some good two year old pictures lately but overall they're a bit too jacked up to sit still for the 1/60th of a second it takes to get a good shot. There are some cute ones of their bumbling around and checking things out, though.

Byron and I have a picture hanging in our living room from our wedding where we're walking together beside these benches and I thought it'd be cute if I got the same shot of the girls. While this is cute they weren't quite as cooperative as I had hoped.

Though they frequently hit and kick each other they also love to share with each other.

It struck me how amazing it is that they do everything together. They love to show each other things and play together. Then I realized that it's not surprising at all. I can't remember a time since they were born that they've been apart for more than two hours at a time! Even at that, they've probably only been apart maybe 30 times (if that).

This picture is a great picture. Not only because Abby thinks that making faces when I'm trying to photograph her is funny, but also because there is a series of pictures of Byron as a child making this same exact face. His family was trying to get a family picture and he repeatedly made silly faces in every shot that they took. Back then there weren't digital cameras to catch that sort of mischief with, though.

I feel like in every set of pictures I take Emily has a way of finding a stick to poke Abby with.

As you've come to expect I've saved some trouble for the end. One day Emily was exhausted and was lying on the floor crying so Abby went to comfort her and rub her head.

It was adorable and went so well for about a minute until Abby remembered that Emily has hair. What else is hair there for other than to be pulled? Emily didn't like it one bit.
